Hello and welcome to another edition of our project newsletter.

Barnsley Hospital is investing £3.5m into this dedicated, co-located Children’s Emergency Department and a brand new purpose-built Children’s Assessment Unit. Co-locating these two units will provide an improved experience for children and families, and will enable the hospital to increase their capacity to treat adults in the current Emergency Department. The project is planned over three phases and is due to complete in spring 2021

Over the past month progress on site has continued to move on at pace, its really coming together now!!!
All the infrastructure for the electrical, mechanical, data and fire alarm are now installed. The new suspended ceiling grids are progressing and will see these completed later this week. The guys from Sheffield Electrical, AC Networks and Protec are now on with the second fixing. Schneider have started to commission the BMS system in order for us to turn on the heating. Complete Pipework Services have now finished installing the full heating system and all the domestic feeds. There now starting to install all the sinks and toilets throughout. The floor layers have started to put down the new vinyl floor coverings. The joiners have completed fitting all the internal doors and will follow on with the kitchen furniture/fit out this week. The final decorating coats are now progressing throughout.

Off-site, the final touches to the fitted furniture are underway and this will shortly be delivered to site and fitted

Also progressed on-site:

– Internally, mechanical and electrical second fix works have pushed on considerably
– The lighting and sockets are now on throughout
– The new data wiring/installation is completed and work has now started on the server room
– Protec have started second fixing the new fire alarm system
– Bicknell/Schindler have started to commission the BMS controls for the heating and ventilation systems
– CPS is nearing completion on installing the new sinks and toilets
– The flooring has started to go down in all areas
– Both the external & internal bi-folding doors have been installed by Record UK
– The existing stair core has been freshly rendered and had a new coat of paint
– Works to bring ventilation into the existing ED department are completed
– All breaking through into the existing building is now complete
– The new suspended ceilings have now been installed
– External works are now ready for tarmac

Over the next two weeks

– The coming weeks will see us move forward with decorations, final floor finishes and manufactured joinery item eg Nurse Base & Children’s Play fitted furniture
– The M&E final fixing will complete shortly and theses element will move into the commissioning phase.
– The team will begin our internal quality inspections to ensure the completed works are to the required standards before handing to the client.
