Let's take a peek behind the work scenes:

I&G has been appointed to refurbish the Reading Room in the Health Sciences Library at the University of Leeds, and we’ve started work on this new collaborative group space within the Worsley Building. As part of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing University learning spaces, this refurbishment project will transform the existing group work area into a vibrant, inclusive environment that champions wellbeing and encourages collaborative learning. This project is taking place on the 7th floor and encompasses the library, IT suite and mezzanine space. Additionally, Velux windows will be installed on the roof, bringing natural light into the Worsley building.

We’re steadily making progress through the planned programme of work, and it’s been amazing to see the difference from where we’ve started to where we are now!

Take a look at what’s been completed so far:
  • Internal and external fixtures and fittings removed
  • Internal scaffolding set up
  • Timber batons installed for acoustic panelling
  • Suspended structural framework for the new skylight install prepared
  • Roof openings created for Velux window support
  • Crane work to lift the Velux skylight in place

Over the next two weeks

Here’s a snippet of works to progress:
  • Installation of the new air handling unit (AHU) in Level 8 plant room
  • First fix mechanical and electrical installation
  • Secondary joinery fixings
  • Fitting of new balustrades for stair modifications
  • Installation of acoustic panelling

We’re excited to be a part of creating a modern, unique space that supports various types of collaborative and group work, fitted with accessible power points with an enhanced connection with nature, illuminated by natural light from the new skylights.

We’re looking forward to completing the library refurbishment, where students and staff can learn and work together, in a quiet, light and accessible space.
